Tan — Physical Seva
Serving with the body: preparing and serving langar, caring for the sangat's spaces, and lending a hand wherever the work is needed.
Seva
Seva is service offered freely, without desire for reward or recognition — seeing the light of the One Creator in every person. It is at the very heart of Sikhi, and it is how our community lives its faith.
From the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Gurus taught that true devotion is expressed not only in prayer but in humble service to others. Seva loosens the grip of ego (haumai), nurtures compassion, and binds a community together.
It is offered to everyone, regardless of faith, background, or means — the same spirit that keeps the langar open to all. No act of service is too small, and none is done for praise.
Serving with the body: preparing and serving langar, caring for the sangat's spaces, and lending a hand wherever the work is needed.
Serving with the mind: sharing knowledge and skills, teaching and mentoring youth, and giving time and attention to those who need it.
Serving with resources: giving generously to sustain langar, programs, and those in need. Many Sikhs practise dasvandh — sharing a tenth of what they earn.
